Beyond Preparing for the pup's needs
This self-care is not listed; however, it is one of the most important things to consider unless you are a Weimaraner, you may not find time to laze around and sunbathe. However, it is a good idea to give yourself a spa treatment, spend some time with your friends, or enjoy a bit of solitude. All too soon, you will wish you went into this refreshed, and with an extra tank of sleep in the bank.
Finding a Veterinarian
Sometimes folks discover all too late, that their trusted vet was not the best choice. That is a hard thing to share, but ask yourself if your loyalty to them is warranted. If so, then ask yourself if they have a Weimaraner-friendly vaccine protocol. If not, you will be the gatekeeper for your pup's well-being. Consider putting the Vaccine Protocol on your calendar. That way you can easily adhere to the Weimaraner protocol instead of relying on the Vet Office to remind you.
Being on the other side of the fence so to speak, OwyheeStar has seen how at times the beloved Vet (who no doubt meant well), failed to understand what can happen with the Weimaraner. It is too late to undo the severe (life-threatening) vaccine (or medication) reaction, once it has occurred. OwyheeStar is a proponent of using a holistic approach to veterinary care. Naming The Pup
There are a lot of theories about what makes a good name choice. Some experts site that you name choice should easily shorten to a one-syllable 'call-name'. Other dog professionals recommend using a two-syllable 'call-name'. For example, if your name choice happened to be "Dusty"--it would become "Dust".
The OwyheeStar puppy comes with a legal name. Once you pick them up, you will want to change their name. The registration paperwork will be signed off to allow you to transfer the pup into your name, and to rename them. Along with this process, you will want to register the microchip with AKC.
When we know which pup is yours, we can begin using your pup's given name. Whether you believe this is beneficial or not, hearing their name may help them learn it more quickly upon arrival.
