The OwyheeStar       Approach

        ~Support and Education

       ~Invested in your success

A little History

Sometimes a childhood experience is etched into our heart and soul. We can never shake the feeling or would we want to when it comes to the Weimaraner. Such is the OwyheeStar foundation--heart and soul.

Cliff's journey began some fifty-plus years ago. He has long since grown out of that set of clothing, and he said good-bye to "Doc." Nevertheless, "Doc" lives on in Cliff's thoughts and memories; and he is the inspiration for today's passion for the Weimaraner.

A chance encounter with a Weimaraner forever changed Cliff. He didn't know about the Gray Ghost Dog until his uncle began to raise them. The original Nielsen Weimaraner was a gift from Uncle Clifton. (Please don't get confused. Cliff's father was Clifford, and Uncle Clifton was his identical twin brother. We were never short on Cliffs.) Cliff's uncle was initially drawn to the post-WWIIpost-WWII highly-touted wonder dog (AKA the Weimaraner). Cliff never forgot his uncle's kindness or the first Weimaraner "Doc". The Weimaraner soon fell out of vogue. They didn't prove out to be what people expected. A few fanciers kept the breed alive in America. Breeding rights were carefully guarded.  In general the Weimaraner was not easy to obtain. For many years, Cliff kept and bred the Labrador Retriever. Nonetheless, he never forgot his love for the Weimaraner. He always planned to get back to them.

The OwyheeStar passion for the breed, as well as the desire to help people understand the Gray Ghost is the foundation for this story. More than twenty years ago, Cliff and Shela began their journey toward raising the Weimaraner. Nonetheless, the real beginning is found in the Cliff's first experience. As you read these pointers keep in mind the passion, and how Cliff and Shela try to learn from every experience--good and bad. Weims are Not For Everyone; however, for those infected, addicted, or just crazy for them nothing else will do! Here is uncle Clifton and "Doc".
