How much is an OwyheeStar Puppy?
We understand price is always a consideration. On the other side of the fence, we want to mention it costs to raise the Weimaraner. Of course, the person who is backyard-breeding (mating their pets) is not laying down a lot of cash, per se. As one person stated -- this is the Gravy Train for us. It is our vacation fund. Let me assure you that for the serious breeder, it is anything but their slush-fund.
Anyone passionate about raising quality pups has a considerable cash outlay. This expense is well beyond that of taking care of your beloved Weimaraner. Acquiring the well-bred quality Weimaraner with breeding rights (one is an excellent match to your lineage) will most likely require travel as well as have a larger than typical price tag. Once acquired, there is health testing, blood work, etc. So, if you find a low-priced Weimaraner, it is Buyer Beware. Many inquiries start off saying they don't want a Show Dog, a Hunting Companion, or anything special. To us, it seems like another way to say they are looking for inexpensive Weimaraner. Let us say, right here--we are not striving to raise Show Dogs. Our target placement is the person looking for a nice Companion Weimaraner--either the hunter or the person who will invest what it takes to keep a Weimaraner exercised and engaged. One good activity for any age Weimaraner is the water-retrieve. Why would we mention that here? Well, this is a high-energy dog that requires exercise and environmental stimulation. While they are more than okay (in fact, they love it) when you want to snuggle on the sofa, they do require more than an average amount of exercise. So, a Companion Weimaraner is a family member who participates in life with you. This person (our family) is our target audience. The investment on every level requires you to dig deep. If the OwyheeStar price is too high, no doubt the time, effort, and demands of this breed are equally more than you desire. Cliff likes to say that the initial puppy cost is nothing compared to the cost of care, the training, etc. Food, Training, Vet expenses, etc. all add up quickly. There are plenty of low-priced dogs to be had, and this includes shelter-dogs. In the long-haul, none of these choices will be inexpensive.
Idaho Veterinary Hospital (Dr. John Calhoun) specializes in serving Treasure Valley Dog Breeders. Of course, Dr. John Calhoun is our go-to Veterinary of choice. As with any pet-related business, there is a need to increase the going rate from time to time. Ever now and again, we receive news to expect an increase--as much as 15%. Likewise, we are forced to raise our prices as the expenses for everything goes up. OwyheeStar puppy prices (as of January 2022) range from $ 1400 to $2000. The typical puppy cost is right at $ 1,500. The higher price is typically reserved for the Longhairs--or a pup with extras. We may have two raise it a bit more, but we are trying to keep it down as possible. All pups within any given litter are priced the same--despite the sex or the coat color. If you wondered--OwyheeStar does not discount pups or make deals. The photos to the right: 5First the traditional Gray Ghost, then the beautiful Blue Coat--followed by the Gray Longhair. The last photo is that of a six-week-old Blue Longhair. |
