only the Weimaraner!

Picture
Puppies are available from time-to-time.

OwyheeStar has an application process; it serves many purposes.

  1. It provides us an opportunity to screen applicants. They know they are not going to be the breeder of choice for everyone wanting the Weimaraner. Not is every applicant is going to meet the criteria. The application helps sort things for everyone; it ensures they have the same information from each person or family..
  2. It helps Cliff and Shela acquire much-need information in a systematic process. It saves typing the same information repeatedly as well as makes sure nothing falls through the cracks so to speak.
  3. The goal is to place every puppy in a win-win situation. If you agree with this philosophy, then you will see the importance in the process.

Puppies Available For Placement to Approved Homes

The Traditional Smooth Coat

It's a good idea to get on the OwyheeStar Waiting List! Those folks on the Waiting List have the priority when the pups arrive.

  • If you are not in a hurry, the best approach is to complete the formal application process and to get on the official waiting list. For you to get your name on the list waiting it requires the application be completed and approved. It also requires a small $ 50 Waiting List Deposit. The deposit is non-refundable, (but it applies toward the cost of the puppy).
  • Guarantees of what will be born prior to the whelp are impossible. OwyheeStar cannot predict the number of pups that will be born, their sex, and, (in some instances; they cannot guess) the coat color.
If you are seriously interested in an OwyheeStar puppy (whatever the color, coat length, or sex) Shela and Cliff look forward to hearing from you!

are you considering a longhair?

Note: Here is a link to a blog featuring what Will had to say about Charlie Mae, a longhair they added to their family last year -- Charlie Mae ) :O)

We hope to raise a few longhairs --each year. It is going to depend upon the invested interest in people wanting the Longhair (Longhaar as it would be in German)

OWYHEESTAR PUPPY AVAILABILITY
~AND HOW THIS HAPPENSFrom the Breeder's Perspective...
  • The raising of pups takes planning. Please read on to learn a bit about the process.
Puppies grow fast, but when you are waiting to take one home, it will seem like an eternity. It is important to know the pups will remain at OwyheeStar until around their 8-week birthday. It is amazing to think they go from above to what you see at the right in seven to eight weeks.

The first few weeks of a pup's life are extra important!
Prenatal care and the right type of diet is also essential. You might wonder how long the gestation period is, and the timeline for the birth. From the time of conception, it is about 59-63 days until the pups arrive. So, the process from the time a mating occurs until the puppies are old enough to leave works out to be about four months. Females come into season every 6-8 months, and OwyheeStar mates their females (at the most) every other cycle. The reality is that not every mating produces a litter of pups.

There are other factors to consider as well. Availability is affected by supply and demand. These are ever-changing factors. A careful breeder must plan according to the need, as well as consider other factors.

The OwyheeStar Formal Waiting List is a tool they use to keep track of serious prospective (and pre-screen/approved) puppy homes. Just because someone is on the Formal Waiting List doesn't always mean they will get a puppy the next time around. Many things can happen.
  1. There might not be a puppy that fits the criteria
  2. The timing might not work this time around
Those things aside, priority is based on when the puppy deposit was received. All things being equal (same criteria, etc.) the first person on the list has the priority to get the puppy. Even with a longer Waiting List, it may be that each person on the list has a set timeline, and this could be 3-6 months in the future. Some people want a certain sex puppy. Others are concerned about the coat color or even desire the Longhair. These are all considerations that affect availability.  There are times when a puppy will suddenly become available, even though it was previously promised. Life happens, and the Nielsen approach includes holding that timing is crucial. They would rather have someone wait, than not to be able to follow through once they get the puppy. This The specifics and the breeding process ends up creating a juggling act of a sort.

The typical waiting period is between 3 and 6 months. On the other hand, frequently those timelines can shift, and a pup that is ready to relocate is suddenly available. At those times, OwyheeStar will query people on the list first, before making the pup available to new applicants.
