The OwyheeStar Guarantee
Cliff and Shela Nielsen (OwyheeStar Weimaraners) considers this a Gentleman's agreement. It spells out what they can do. When you get a puppy, there is always some risk. Living creatures can develop unforeseen issues. Not everyone will make it to the ripe old age as desired. The Terms of Sale outline what the agreement you are making with OwyheeStar. Please review it and expect to sign it. Below you will find a more detailed explanation of what is covered and what is not covered by the OwyheeStar Guarantee. Consider the Extended Guarantee we offer when you use NuVet.
The Basic 12 Month Guarantee
This guarantee is meant to provide you with a measure of protection (should the unthinkable happen). It is not an insurance policy and does not cover the minor defect, typical veterinary expense, or any cost associated with routine pet care. That being as such, untimely loss due to an undetected congenital defect, or bone/joint issue (not associated with a vaccine reaction) would be covered. The importance of using the best vaccine and the recommended vaccine protocol for the Weimaraner cannot be overstated. Keep in mind the average veterinary must gear their practice for dogs across the board, and they do not see many Weimaraners. When they do, the likelihood of running into a severe vaccine-related reaction is not probable. Five-ten percent of Weims have an intense reaction, and some (of those in the severe-reaction category) are life-threatening. OwyheeStar is concerned that the certain vaccine combinations, as well as unnecessary puppy shots, may well compromise your Weim's longevity, and overall health. For this reason, they have a comprehensive vaccine schedule they recommend. (Check out the OwyheeStar Vaccine Protocol information.
The Titer Test
Cliff and Shela believe that doing the Vaccine titre test in lieu of a sixteen-week automatic puppy shot is the best approach. Several puppy clients have had the titer test done and reported back to OwyheeStar the results. For example, Kevin reported that his pup's titer count showed double what is needed. Loading up with vaccine rather than doing a titer test is not a good choice. Vets and their clients have made a practice of doing the sixteen-week shot (without questioning the validity) because some dogs will need it, and it is less expensive than the titre test. Nevertheless, OwyheeStar recommends staying as holistic across the board. Avoid as many medications, and unnecessary vaccine when possible. That doesn't mean a good vaccine protocol is not vital, but it does mean that throwing additional vaccine (above what is recommended for the Weimaraner) could prove to be counterproductive.
Comments about This discussion
Why mention the vaccine when talking about the guarantee? OwyheeStar believes the health of your Weimaraner could be compromised by trying to do what is considered the canine vaccine norm.

How to Handle a Guarantee Issue or Claim
Contact Cliff (cliff@owyheestar.com) giving him the basic details via email. If the claim falls into the guarantee perimeters, he will ask you to follow up by having your vet share the comprehensive veterinary records with the OwyheeStar Veterinary of Choice.
- After adequate proof is received your name goes on the list for a replacement puppy.
- OwyheeStar will expedite this process as much as possible. That means you will be placed in line for the next available pup. This may not put you at the top of the list because some pups are litter specific or have the time frame priority that cannot be adjusted. Nevertheless, you can expect to get a puppy as soon as it is feasible.
The Guarantee does not cover:
• Vaccine reactions
• Accidents
• General Veterinary Care
• Allergies
• Minor things that can go wrong--some of these are going to be at Cliff' discretion.
• Minor bone or joint issues that can happen, but usually will resolve over time.
The OwyheeStar Guarantee for Parvo extends until day five after the pup's departure from OwyheeStar. They do not guarantee against Giardia, Coccidia, or other parasites.
