The Mousse X Boone 2018 Litter
~Day One News -- July 31, 2018
It is Day One--and we want to call this a good one, thus far. Mama Mousse is doing well as are her babies.
First--a few little details. Excuse our ragged, stained towel--we try to make sure we use the stained towels for the early handling and treatment. The umbilical treatment leaves a permanent stain. We don't worry about it because everything is sanitary, but there is no sense in making every towel have yellow spots. (Haha)
My little garden girls came early today. They wanted to help, so they washed up and grabbed the stools.
Each puppy is looked over--the collar checked, their weight recorded, and then their umbilical cord is treated. The collars are coated paper, and we write on them--a number to denote the birth order. Sometimes the collars need to be changed out every day--other times not so much. Larger pups gain weight faster--usually, require more frequent collar adjustments.
We are happy to report every pup is up to the original birth weight or more. One of the nine is lagging a bit behind on the weight gain, but gaining nonetheless. The umbilical spray is essential--it helps prevent bacterial infection which could be serious or even life-threatening.
