When gas, diarrhea, or loose stools visit it is easy to freak. If you see blood or mucous by all means a trip to the vet and a fecal exam are warranted. Sometimes a loose stool is caused by a tummy upset or stress.
The young pup is especially susceptible. Our environment is filled with parasites and they are opportunitic by nature. There is a reason they cannot be easily eradicated too! They have survived since the beginning of time. The most common culprits are Giardia, Coccidia, and Worms. The latter comes in many different varieties; but for the sake of this blog we will lump them together.
Most of these (along with viruses like Parvo) are in the environment where our pups walk. Frequently, dog areas are the most infected. The one-celled parasite, the worm egg, etc. is easily injected when the Weimaraner grooms. One lick and they slide down the guttet into the perfect environment for reproduction. They can take off like wildfire. More often than not this will require medication--the type that kills good bacteria along with the intruder.
You need to introduce good bacteria. One way to do that is by adding probiotics to their diet. Fortiflora is a good-to product available from your Veterinarian as well as online at Chewy.com. Above Dusty has a packet of the good-tasting tummy boosting FortiFlora. #ChewyInfluencer
